Early Life and Education

Nuala Malley was born on November 22, 1914, in Galway, Ireland. She was the daughter of two medical doctors, which sparked her interest in science and medicine at an early age. Malley attended medical school at Trinity College Dublin, where she graduated in 1938 with honors.

Aviation Career

In addition to her medical studies, Malley also developed a passion for aviation. She joined the Irish Aero Club in 1936 and quickly became an accomplished pilot. In 1937, she made history as the first Irish woman to obtain a commercial pilot's license.

During World War II, Malley volunteered as a pilot with the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA). She flew over 1,000 hours during the war, ferrying aircraft from factories to airfields across Britain. Her bravery and skill earned her the respect of her fellow pilots and the gratitude of the British government.

Medical Research

After the war, Malley returned to Ireland and resumed her medical career. She specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, becoming a consultant at the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin. Alongside her clinical practice, she dedicated herself to medical research, particularly in the area of infertility.

Malley's groundbreaking research in fertility led to the development of new treatments and techniques that helped countless couples conceive children. She was instrumental in establishing the Irish National Infertility Association and served as its president for many years.

Legacy and Impact
